TORONTO WEST was founded in
1969. We started with a ladies intermediate calibre team and, in 1973-74,
added a male calibre division team. Since the 1976-77 season, we have
included many boys and girls age division teams in our program.
At the present, TORONTO WEST services the public by providing
developmental and competitive programs for boys and girls from ages 11 through
17.
During the past (2005-2006) season, TORONTO
WEST consisted of 114 players,
coaches and support staff on 11 competitive teams, as well as over 80
pre-competitive players, aged 8 to 11.
For the upcoming (2006-2007) season, TORONTO WEST is planning to expand
on its pre-competitive programming while running the following competitive
teams: Girls – 13U, 14U & 16U Boys –
14U, 15U, 16U & 17U. Team try-outs will be held in September,
2006.
Over
the past 38 years, many TORONTO WEST teams have participated in and won
Provincial Championships. TORONTO WEST has also won medals at Canadian
Closed and Open Championships:
Juvenile
Boys BRONZE in 1977, Juvenile Boys SILVER in 1981, Sr.“A”
Ladies BRONZE in 1986, 16U Boys GOLD (East) in 2004, 16U Boys BRONZE (West) in 2004, 15U Boys BRONZE in 2006.
Numerous TORONTO WEST members have trained hard and have been selected
to Regional, Provincial, Junior National
and Senior National Teams. Some have also earned NCAA scholarships, played
professionally in many parts of the world, and even gone on to compete in
the Olympics
(1984 and 2000!). Notably among them
are: Stelio DeRocco, Alex Ketrzynski, Matt Zbyszewski, Marc Arsenault,
Christine Pollitt and Vilis Ozols. For more, please check the TW ALUMNI PAGE.
